CHAKANA SOBRENATURAL BONARDA LUJAN DE CUYO 2019

This was a classic example of trust your pallet rather than the numbers. I came across Sobrenatural through a post from one of my old instructors at @algonquincollege Curious, I looked it up on @vivino , and found a staggeringly low score of 2.5.

Odd. if @ashawwine praised it, it had to be a decent wine, (Personally speaking, anything below 3.0 un-drinkable). I had to see what this was all about and judge for myself!

This 100% Bonarda wine is anything but un-drinkable.

Sobrenatural Bonarda by Chakana is a natural wine – 100% organic, certified biodynamic, vegan and without sulfites. Bonarda isn’t all that common of a grape (unless you’re from Argentina, in which case it’s the second most planted grape in the country).

If you’re new to natural wines, I recommend this one. There was the characteristic funk of a natural wine, but it faded quickly. I for one, enjoy a little funk in my wine – it’s a sign that your wine is alive!

Once the lovely funk dissipates, in comes a wave of black olive. Then plum and black cherry skins. Then pencil shavings (lol it’s true!). The next night, new flavours of strawberry emerged. The flavours grew and evolved – a wine full of life!

Structurally, tannins were very present – little on the rougher side, with acid to match. At $15.85 I’m heading straight back to @lasaq and grabbing another. Natural wines aren’t known to age well, but I’ll let it rest for a little and see what happens, as it has all the structural elements required for aging.

In conclusion, don’t always trust the numbers.
